This is one of the most representative palaces of Palermo, containing seven centuries of art and Sicilian history. The palace is one of the first examples of the 14th century architecture style called chiaramontan style, after the powerful Chiaramonte family. It also housed the Spanish viceroys and was the seat of the Inquisition court. Today, this palace is the center of the rectorate of the University of Palermo.
